Ethiopian coffee vs Colombia coffee.
Colombia and Ethiopia are close in scale and both are Arabica only in these figures. Colombia grows 1,300 thousand bags more. Volume will not decide this one, so the cup and the terms do.
The figures side by side.
| Origin | Total | Arabica | Robusta | USDA marketing year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ethiopia | 12,100 | 12,100 | 0 | October to September |
| Colombia | 13,400 | 13,400 | 0 | October to September |
Source: USDA Coffee: World Markets and Trade, July 2026. Volumes are thousand 60 kg bags for 2026/27. Ratios and shares are our arithmetic from those figures.
Where Colombia is stronger.
We put this first on purpose. A comparison that hides where the other origin wins is not worth reading.
- Slightly larger. Colombia grows 13,400 thousand bags against Ethiopia's 12,100 thousand, a difference of 1,300 thousand bags. At this scale volume is not the deciding factor.
- Same species profile. Both are Arabica only in these figures, so the choice is about the cup, the season and the terms, not about Arabica versus Robusta.
Where Ethiopia is the better fit.
- Named Ethiopian zones with recorded altitude, process and cup per lot, on a season sheet you can read before you ask.
- A buyer's agent who vets the exporter, has each lot read at an independent lab before shipping and again on landing, and stays with the shipment.
How to decide.
- Both origins are Arabica only and similar in scale, so cup and terms decide it: cup both from samples.
- Check the marketing year: both report October to September.
- If you want an agent to vet the exporter and read the lot twice, that is what Kaffa Bridge does for Ethiopia.
What we have not verified for Colombia: grade names, washed and natural shares, harvest months and export regulation. We have not checked them against a primary source, so we do not describe them. Kaffa Bridge sources Ethiopian coffee only and acts for the buyer. We are not the exporter and do not own farms or washing stations.
