Ethiopian coffee vs Indonesia coffee.

Indonesia and Ethiopia are close on headline volume, but Indonesia is 88 percent Robusta. For Arabica, Ethiopia is the deeper supply. For Robusta, Indonesia is the answer.

Where Indonesia is stronger.

We put this first on purpose. A comparison that hides where the other origin wins is not worth reading.

  • A mixed crop. Indonesia grows 10,000 thousand bags of Robusta, 88 percent of 11,380 thousand. If you need Robusta, Indonesia answers it and Ethiopia does not.
  • Total volume is close. Indonesia is 94 percent of Ethiopia's total, so on headline volume the two are near each other. The difference is the species mix.

Where Ethiopia is the better fit.

  • Arabica depth. Ethiopia grows 12,100 thousand bags of Arabica against Indonesia's 1,380 thousand, about 8.8 times as much.
  • Named zones and a lot-level record: altitude, process, screen and cup score for each season lot.

How to decide.

  • You need Robusta or a blend base: Indonesia.
  • You need Arabica at container scale: Ethiopia has the deeper Arabica supply of the two.
  • USDA's marketing years differ (April to March against October to September). That is a reporting year, not a harvest window, which we have not verified for Indonesia.

What we have not verified for Indonesia: grade names, washed and natural shares, harvest months and export regulation. We have not checked them against a primary source, so we do not describe them. Kaffa Bridge sources Ethiopian coffee only and acts for the buyer. We are not the exporter and do not own farms or washing stations.
